Thunderhill
Feburary 28-29th 2004
This
weekend had a three car GTi field....veterns Alex Castro
and Carlos Suarez and rookie Scott
Neville. For Satuday's race Carlos grabed pole with a 2:16.84.
Alex was second with a 2:19.83
and Scott Neville followed close behind Alex with a 2:19.89.
The GTis were grouped with the Spec Miatas, SU's, RSR's, & Pro7s...
and were grided in the back of the group. The second wave of cars
behind our group were the Honda Challenge (HC) cars The race started
with Alex leading the GTis into Turn 1 followed closely by Carlos...then
Scott. The GTis stayed that way until the last turn (Turn 15)
on the first lap where, with traffic, Alex got boxed in with some faster
HC cars to which Scott took advantage of and was able to pass Alex just
as they hit the main straight. The rest of the race Scott was
chasing Carlos.... waiting for him to get caught in traffic...but no go...Carlos
took first and Scott got second and Alex third. Carlos' fastest race
lap was a 2:17.28....Scott
was able to turn a 2:17.54
trying to chase him down. Click here
for a video clip of the start and first lap of the race from Scott's in-car
video camera. The GTis didn't race Sunday. Here's the NASA
link
for race results.
